Schools Work

One of our organisational aims is….. “the advancement of the education of children and young people through support and mentoring in schools, colleges”….

We are doing this is a number of different ways - via

  1. developing a Peer Support programme and training Peer Supporters who become the first line of support for younger pupils in Teignmouth Community College who may feel lonely, upset and want a friendly face to help them.
  2.  Developing a Peer Buddy programme in Trinity school, Teignmouth  - this operates in a similar way to the Peer Support programmes.
  3. Being Independent Listeners in Trinity school and Ratcliffe School, Dawlish where our role is one of being around for the pupils to know us and being available to respond to any needs they may have – which may include issues around bullying, parental divorces, serious illness/death in their families, problems in school
  4. Boarding support in Trinity school – spending time each week with the Boarding pupils making their time as settled as possible especially the overseas pupils.
  5. Running ASDAN group in Teignmouth Community College for pupils on an alternative curriculum.
  6. We also take some R.E. lessons and assemblies.
  7. We use two Scripture Union programmes for Year 6 in local Primary schools - Fit4Life which is a fun club that uses games and activities to look at issues children will come up against – e.g.  right attitude to money, ambition, parents & families, disability, homelessness and exploring what the Bible teaches on these subjects.

We also offer to Year 6 pupils the Scripture Union books – ‘Its your move’ in preparation for them moving up to Secondary school.
In all we do in schools we aim to… “demonstrate, promote and encourage Christian values, including dignity, respect, empowerment and partnership to all young people and to promote and encourage positive Christian living”.
